These are the best used cars to buy

Earlier this year, Cars.co.za revealed their 2019 Ownership Survey’s findings. With this survey of 10,000 cars owners, they polled them on their “Purchasing Experience, Servicing Experience and Overall Ownership Experience.” We completed one such survey on their website, too.

The Mazda CX-5 rated tops with Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class second and Audi’s A4 in third place. In order of popularity, these filled the rest of the top ten: Mercedes-Benz GLC; Mercedes-Benz A-Class; Volkswagen Tiguan; Hyundai Tucson; Hyundai Grand i10; BMW 1 Series; Toyota Fortuner.

Looking at the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment, the VW Amarok was the bakkie most would highly recommend followed by the Isuzu KB/D-Max and Toyota Hilux.

Which car is the best to buy? According to Cars.co.za – and even our own recommendations – it would be the Mazda CX-5. Why do they account for relatively low sales volumes then? Volkswagen and Toyota account for around 40 percent of new car sales each month and about 35 to 40 percent of the used car sold each month too.

In terms of sales volume alone, if you had to buy the best-selling car in South Africa you’d end up with a Volkswagen Polo (and this includes the Polo Vivo under that model umbrella). That would come from research drawn from both new and used car sales figures. Is that really the best car for your money? And even as a used car buy?
