Sunday’s Station Wagon Selections

Posted on 30 August 202029 August 2020 By Evan Rothman

Station Wagons. Estates. Avants. No matter what you call them, these are the unsung heroes of the car world. These long-roof cars offer more space than many SUVs in a shape that’s more efficient and eye-catching. Why have manufacturers reduced their numbers? Simply put, demand has waned. However, we lay that responsibility at the feet of manufacturers. Make station wagons more popular and across more model lines and we’d likely see an increase in their numbers on our roads.

Without further delay, here are our sexy station wagon finds for this Sunday…

2012 Volvo V60 T6 R-Design Geartronic

This is a beauty of a bargain. More sensible, more fun and better looking than a rival SUV, this 2012 Volvo V60 T6 R-Design Geartronic boasts PDC front and rear sensors; leather upholstery; R-Design Package; and, 223 kW of power under your right foot to scare many hot hatches in traffic light to light dashes. It carries a full service history, a mileage of 109,000km and is available for R179,900. What a car. See the full listing here.

2014 Audi A4 Avant Allroad 2.0 TDI Quattro S tronic

This is one of the most desirable station wagons on the market. Audi’s A4 Avant Allroad examples don’t park up at dealers for too long before they’re snatched up, and we think this one will be bought soon too. The 2014 Allroad 2.0 TDI S tronic features 130kW and 380Nm available for zippy performance while still able to return a very respectable 6.0-litres/100km of average fuel consumption. This example has 141,200km on the odometer, a full service history, and a long list of specs. It has a price of R214,900. See the full listing here.

2015 MINI Cooper Clubman S Automatic

A slightly less conventional station wagon but true to form for MINI, Clubman is oh-so-sexy. This 2015 MINI Cooper Clubman S Automatic packs a powerful punch under the bonnet; boasts a long list of extras including a double sunroof; a full service history; and a mileage of just 64,000km. It is priced at R309,900 for a great buy. See the full listing here.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C250 Bluetec Estate Avantgarde Automatic

Mercedes-Benz station wagons – which they term as Estates – are always head-turners and this generation of C-Class is one of the prettiest yet from the German marque. This 2015 C250 Estate Avantgarde Automatic is in excellent condition with 82,000km on the odometer; a full service history; PDC front and rear sensors; cruise control; and a lot more for R319,900. See the full listing here.

2014 Audi RS4 Avant Quattro S tronic

With 331kW and a 0-100km sprint time of only 4.7 seconds, the Audi RS department have made the humble A4 Avant into a beast with the RS4 Avant Quattro S tronic. This 2014 example is a face-lifted model with 85,000km on the odometer, a full service history and a price of R499,995. This is a Million Rand vehicle at half that price. Very tempting. It features a panoramic sunroof; PDC front and rear sensors with a Reverse Camera; Bang & Olufsen audio package and all the choice RS performance parts including the mega 20″ alloy wheels. See the full listing here.
